Default My transfer case is possessed!

I don't know....but strange things have been happening since I changed my transfer case.
Originally, I had a transfer case that needed to be replaced due to very bad maintenance by the previous owner. Got a rebuilt t-case at Roverland and had it installed. After this, my D2 (2004) started running perfectly (mechanically speaking). After a while of driving that same day, I started getting alarms and warning indicators (transfer gearbox in neutral (in amber, not red) indicator and soon after the differential lock warning light (amber)). At the moment, I thought the world was coming to an end! But then my brain started to work and I realized, I was driving smoothly without any real mechanical issues as I had before with the previous t-case. At this point I thought it was most likely a bad cable (of the few the t-case has) which was not connected correctly.
After I got back home, I inspected the t-case area and saw nothing strange. When I was ready to turn the engine off, my D2 would NOT release my key! After consulting the manual, I did not see anything in reference to security issues and key release ( which is what I thought); a few minutes later, it then released the key.
After this incident, I was all over the manual, trying to find clues to why this had happened. After consulting a LR tech., and the manual, I did "play" with the t-case so it would sync with the transmission....and it did. Everything was working perfectly again and the alarms were off.
The...after driving it again, the whole situation started all over again the next day! This would happen after a few miles into driving (14 miles approx.) I then again, worked with the t-case, but this time the same trick did not work.
After stopping the engine again, I noticed some oil drops on the floor.
Another day, as this same scenario was taking place and my frustration was mounting, I drove in reverse and went over a speed bump diagonally and noticed that all the alarms stopped. At this point, my conclusion is that something most be loose. The amount of oil now seems to have increased also. I notice the support beam under the t-case with oil drops and little amounts on the floor, more then before.

What could this possibly be? After reading some of the input by other members, I have gotten some ideas, but I need to get under and check seals. Does anyone know if the REV CD manual has a diagram explaining every component of the t-case including which cable does what?

If anyone has had a similar experience, please let me know.
Thanks
Stephen

Is it engine oil leaking?
Sounds like whatever is leaking is getting into the wire harness that controls all of your warning lights.
Other than that shot in the dark I have no idea.

Thanks, now that you mentioned this fact, I think you are absolutely correct. I am not really familiar with the set of cables, so it was hard for me to imagine this fact. But your reasoning seems about right....in fact I feel it is right.
The oil leaking has become an issue of concern. Tomorrow, I'm bringing my D2 to the shop and I will be underneath looking all over. I did this the last time and became very familiar with all its parts. I will be ordering the CD manual for references in the future.

Thanks for valuable input.
Stephen

A frind of mine had a oil leak on his DII, he thought it was the rear main, it was only the oil pan gasket.
But his leak started small and gradually got worse, kinda like yours, but he had no other trouble from what I know.

I am having the same issues. I had some leakage in the transfer case and had it re-sealed. Shortly after the repair I got some of the same amber warning lights. I would pull over and turn the truck off then back on and the warning lights went away. This happened a couple different times, but this past week it has happened each day and now the lights have come on and are not coming off. The truck is not having any issues while I am driving so maybe it the sensors or wiring might have been messed with inadvertently while the transfer case was being worked. I would think that if the warning lights were coming on that the verhicle would not be operating very well, but I am not sure. Any advice on what to look for when getting under the truck?

Default Found the cause of the problem.

We found the problem...only because it broke a seal twice. My D2 is in the shop again and we are installing a new front seal. The t-case is good, but the front seal was bad.

Default Have images.

I took a few pictures and wanted to share with everyone, but I don't know how to upload them.

Wait!...I think I got it!

Check these out and tell me how they look. I tried to show the seal...I hope you can see it. This was the cause of the leak.

I can see them, they're a bit blurry... or I'm drunk
