You need to post your actual codes. It will help us diagnose your problem.

A plugged cat will cause misfires. The easy thing to due is unbolt to down pipe that the misfires are on. Bank 1 or 2 and drive it. If the power is back cat is plugged. Or screw a pressure gauge into the 02 sensor hole and measure the back pressure.

When we had symptoms like that we had sheared a rocker arm. Flashing MIL typically indicates "stop driving me now". YMMV.

Double check all the spark plug boots are properly seated (coil and spark plug ends). Especially, cylinder number eight where you see the misfire code. I think cyl 8 is the last plug closest to the firewall on the passenger side.

Also, pull and inspect cyl 8 spark plug. Is it charred? Is the end terminal where the boot connects loose? Sometimes, if you inappropriately wiggle the boot it works the plug's terminal nut loose.

Problem solved: I vacuumed the air intake and air filter housing and purchased a new MAF sensor and air filter. My baby is back!!! SEL is off and has not come back on.

Nice job.
How many miles were on it?

I am trying to figure out what damaged it....

Also just to post this to your thread. Because my fix exhibited the same symptoms as your issue. Flashing SES light no power. Limp. For any future people trying to fix these symptoms. Check the passengers side O2 sensor electrical connector. Mine was corroded with green corrosion. Took the dumb dealer 30 days to never figure it out and tried to charge me $2500. Talked them down to $500 for poor service. Now I've fixed everthing myself since 2008. Rover On!

It has 113,000 miles. I did attempt cleaning out the old Bosch MAF, but that proved unsuccessful.
