Default Mystery Driveline Sound

OK...trying to locate a low speed (5-10 kph) rub noise in drive line on my newly purchased 2004 Disco SE7 with 107,000 kms (67,000 miles). Thought for sure it was a u joint and just did the front shaft rebuild (all u joints look good). Will do the rear shaft but it has the greaseable front so didn't think it would be suspect. Can slightly feel it in gear selector of A/T in a very slow crawl. Its a short rub sound every rotation of a shaft or at least it seems like that. It doesn't happen always but often. Truck was well maintained with decent records. All fluid look great and no sign off metal in tranny or transfer box. Will look closer at rear brakes but were all recently done with near rotors, but wouldn't think I would feel that in the shifter.

Appreciate any input.
Cheers Kevin

Chances are you will find a bad u joint in the rear shaft. Be sure to check the rotoflex also, the centering bushing may have failed or the coupler is torn causing the problem.

Did you install a new centering ball when rebuilding the front shaft, if not, she will fail on you soon.

OK.... I will be replacing the rear shaft and check the rotoflex. Mike I did change the centering ball....but the old one looked really good and contemplated not changing it.

What about a dragging brake caliper? Make sure you grease all those new u-joints and well asl the 2 slip shafts, one on the front of each shaft.
