Just don't stand in front of it. If your mechanic friend has a fuel pressure gauge, hook that up to the fuel rail and then crank the engine over or run it and see if the pressure drops, if it does it means u have a bad pump or fuel filter is clogged and only allowing a small amount of fuel to pass.
