Need HELP! Intermittent crank no start
Hello
I have a 2004 Discovery 2s. Drove into driveway a few days ago and car stalled. Cranked over but would not start. I checked the fuel pump relay, relay OK. I put starter fluid in intake and vehicle tried to start. So, I figured bad fuel pump. Next morning, started right up, but stalls out after about 20 minutes.
I replaced fuel pump $325.00 still same problem, after about 20 minutes dies and wont start. Let sit overnight, runs for awhile then dies again. No fuel filter to service from what I heard.
Any suggestions?

You need a new crank position sensor.
$70 part, should have asked first.
Looking at the engine, 3o'clock position on the bell housing.
You can buy it at AutoZone, exact same part just in a different box.

Easy to replace? Kinda no, kinda yes.
2 10?mm bolts hold it on, take note of the spacers as they MUST go back in the same order they came off.
If you have large hands it is hard to replace, small hands not to bad.
There is a write up in one of the sticky's on the top of the DII page.

My CPS failed on the way to the beach, and the mechanics at a Goodyear dealership hooked me up for about $150 parts and labor (as I recall) and I was back on the road in 2 hours. Probably would have taken me 3 hours at home, with my luck and mechanical prowess... CPS is a good preventive maintenance item in my book.
