Default Need help with purchase

Ok guys I'm torn between 2 trucks and I need you guys to help me decide this and knock some sense into me with which one I should buy

1- 03 discovery with 119,000 km very clean and amazing service history even called shop where it was serviced for 10 years

2- 2006 Lr3 173,000 km also with service records etc

im thinking the Lr3 has higher mileage and would be more comfort but more expensive to maintain ?

The 03 is older engine not as good as Lr3 and worse mpg but it does not have air suspension so I'm thinking it's cheaper and easier to maintain ??

I wont be doing much off-road mostly highway driving

which one guys help ????

A discovery 2, while properly maintained can be very reliable, is a labor of love. The proper maintenence is a good but of work and there's a lot of preventative stuff to fix. It is easier to work on, but you'll probably have to work on it more often.

So the Lr3 could end up being more reliable ?

4.4L Jag V8 is more reliable, but it’s also more complicated and more $$$ to fix. 4.6L is a good engine if it isn’t overheated, and it’s maintained. It is easier to work on and cheaper to repair. Both are nice SUV’s with their own ups & downs. You’ve just got to decide which one you like best and which one suits your needs. I own both and love the LR3 for road trips with the kids. Then I love my D2’s on and off road as well.

Find a lower mileage well kept LR3 for a reasonable price.

I would just buy the one that you like better. I asked about the LR3 and reliablity at the LR shop in MPLS and they said they are very reliable. But an old car is an old car and they will both need maintenance.

“If” you get an LR3 the very first thing you should buy after you fill the gas tank on your way home is a LR Specific unit like a Hawkeye, Lynx, or at a bare minimum the iCarsoft LRII scan tool so you can diagnose issues vs paying a minimum of 120.00 per hour for diagnostics.

Ok looks like I'll be more active on the disco 2 community
i ended up going with the 2003 disco very low kilometres and well maintained plus I hear the air suspension on the Lr3 could be very costly and the air bags have not been replaced
looking forward to the wisdom of the forum

welcome aboard. You’re screwed! Just kidding. Just make sure that thermostat is a Genuine LR Thermostat, and do the fluids. Their a fun truck to work on, and tons of cool cheap upgrades.
