Default Need help refitting snap ring to AC clutch bearing/pulley

Hey guys. Some of you may have seen my thread regarding the noise coming from my AC compressor. I went ahead and decided to replace the bearing as the cheapest option first.

I've got the new bearing set in and I have the pulley sitting on the compressor. My issue right now is that I can't tell/remember how this snap ring is supposed to go back on. Sounds dumb I know. Since hardly anyone does this there aren't many references for this compressor to look at.

I just know that it secures the pulley to the compressor. I thought I was supposed to put it inside the bearing but when I tried that it looked like the snap ring looked too "squished" and the two holes for snap ring pliers started to overlap.

Can anyone answer this question? Even better. Does anyone have a junk AC compressor lying around to which they could open the face plate and confirm where it goes for me?

This might help. It's for a D1 but very similar. You spread the snap ring apart and put it on the outside, then release the snap ring and it clamps into place. Does that make sense?
AC Compressor clutch bearing replacement

First the pulley, then the snap ring, cover WITH SHIM and bolt

Hey Jared yeah I found that picture too. Ive given it a shot and it seems awfully difficult to put it on the outside as well. I remember I had to stretch the ring to take it off but it seems like if I put it on the outside it will have "maxed out" it's diameter. Does the snap ring stretch and shrink when installed and removed?

there are internal snap ring and external snap rings, that is an external snap ring. if you look at the ring the locking bevel is on the inside of the ring, not the outside.
