Need help with Windshield - Carolinas
I agree. Some of the trim parts are getting harder to replace or find at all. If left up to the shop I can't imagine they would put much effort in trying to make it right.
I am located in BC, Canada and perhaps the insurance process is different.
I took mine to the local glass repair place a few years ago. The repair person was familiar with the Discovery windshield. He was able to get insurance approval for the Pilkington heated windshield.
He also anticipated the vulnerability of the A-pillar brackets. He was (surprisingly) able to get insurance pre-approval for a set of new A-pillar covers.
I asked for the old A-pillar covers back (albeit with broken tabs). Now, I have an extra set of A-pillar covers as standby (using double-mounted 3-M automotive tape).

Same, my local glass repair place was awesome. New glass and A pillars. All in all, insurance paid like $1700 or so. Kind of nuts for a 18 year old car. I close a local place instead, brought them cookies from a local bakery and they went the extra mile. Totally worth it.
