Default Need new rings and pinions?

My truck suffers from the driveline clunk big time. It’s not just a clunk, it’s almost like a doing a neutral slam if I don’t ease into the gas. Get it to any kind of road speed and let off and get back on the gas quickly it’s a clunk and a jerk. It’s been like this for a long time but again I am easy on the pedal and I can easily avoid both. But I recently took a 2000 ( same year as mine ) for a test drive and deliberately tried to recreate the clunk because everyone claims it’s normal. Granted this particular truck I test drove was the same year as mine it only had 60k miles, truly a mint example. Anyway, there was ZERO clunk and of course no jerk. Also, I had my trucks front wheels off the ground recently and I turned the drivers wheel 60 degrees before the drive shaft moved. That can’t be good, right? My driveshaft is good, greaseable zerks and all and my problem existed before the replacement of it which was years ago. I have a new flex joint in the rear and new CV’s from front to back. All diffs serviced with correct weight. The first time I serviced them there was an Afro of shavings on the plugs at the front and rear.

Anyway there is no noise or vibration from the driveline whatsoever when I ease into the throttle.

So my question is has anyone had the clunck/jerk and narrowed it down the the ring an pinions? Is it normal to be able to turn the wheels 60 degrees to engage the driveshaft?

I want to see antique tags on this truck, the funds to remedy are not an issue.

No, that's way too much. Mine is no more than 5 deg or so. I would definitely pull the diff. If you do, post pics, I'm curious to see what's inside.

I have to agree something is way off, I have an 04, and checked after reading this. Mine is similar to the others maybe 5 deg and the drive shaft moves.

ok, I miss spoke/typed. If the top center of the wheel is 12 o'clock i can that spot on the tire to about the 1 o'clock position before the drive shaft turns. thats a much better and more accurate description.
