Default Need a quick answer re CDL

I have a 2000 Disco II. How exactly can I tell if I have the transfer case with CDL and how exactly would I activate it?

The first pic here shows the CDL from the top (this pic was shot with the center console removed).

2003CDLInstall - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.

Yours won't have the nut of the metal bracket. It'll just be a threaded post with squared sides for the metal bracket.

To actuate it, use a small wrench (10mm I think) to twist it. It should move pretty easily.

That's Josh Salas' site. There's tons of good stuff there, from the CDL swap to the inline thermostat to the ABS mod fix.

The community lost a great resource when he sold his Disco, but thankfully he has kept the site up.

Perfect! Thanks. I have to drive in ice this weekend... No choice... And while this trick won't help on ice it will help if I get off the road. Thanks again.

Looking at the diagram (and modifying the picture for a disco with the locking tcase) it seems like I should be able to fabricate a simple lever. Hmm

do a search you will find them.
some are run under the truck to below the door, other have come right threw the center console with a lever.
All depend if you want to hack up your truck or not, if not; you can use a shifter from an 04 or a D1.

I was going to install the D1 shifter but after reviewing all the work I ended up building an arm that you pull out just underneat the passenger side front door.
It was very easy and has worked well for over a year. Yes you've gotta get out to switch it on and off but when I go off road it pretty much gets pulled on and then stays on while I'm wheeling. When I get off the trail I push it back in. no big deal.
The arm sits between the body and the frame with a little pull lver. I do have a 1" body lift though, so i've gotta a but more play room in there.

I installed the D1 CDL shifter, and it wasn't worth the money I saved for the work involved.

If I did it again I'd buy an 04 or aftermarket and be done with it.

I found threads in an ad hoc shifter. I think I will do that, since I probably will have a different transmission soon (non land rover/zf) and I don't want to have to modify the console twice.

Thanks for all of the responses. I did engage the CDL and it was some help in most of my extremely slow, snow and sleet covered ice driving, though on clear ice I'm afraid it wasn't much help.
