Need to remove ignition switch
Hi! I have a little problem with my 1994 3.9 Disco. I lost the unique key I had for the car, so now the car is parked in my girfriends house. This weekend I removed the door lock and took it to a key shop and they did a new key, but it did not work. Now I know that I have to remove the ignition switch and take it again to the workshop for them to make a new key, but the problem now is that I can not find a way to remove the switch. I removed the plastic cover of the direction column and now the switch is exposed. What have I to do to remove the switch? Do I need a special tool to do that? There is no screws, nuts, etc, that i can remove with my tools.
Could anyone please help me?
Thanks!

As far as I know, the previous owner had a similar problem, and he had to modify the registers within the key cylinder. If I buy a new one from the dealer, it is possible that the key will not work. The dealer here told me that the price for a new key is about US$ 200.00 Isn't that a stupid price?
I found a procedure to remove the key cylinder from a Range Rover 1992. The pictures show that the guy removed the complete switch from the steering column, and after removing the screws (My disco has security screws, I'll have to cut them out!) he can remove another screw that holds the cylinder... Does anyone know if this procedure will work for me?

I have not had any experience with the ignition lock, but if the old owner had the tumblers modified, wouldn't the lock havehad to be removed? Can you get a mobile locksmith out to make a key for the ignition, or have it towed to them? A $50 tow and $50 key madewould be cheaper than a $200 key from the dealer....
Just a thought..I have searched the workshop manual, but haven't come up with anything on removing the ignition lock. If I find something, I will post it
Good Luck!

I looked at the post, but I can't tell if it will work for you. I have looked at my switch before, and I think if you just tap the old shear bolts out, you can get the switch off. The bolts holding the switch in were made to shear off sotheives can't get to it easily.
OK, this is what I found in the book: It looks like you have to tap out the shear bolts holding the switch in, you might have to get new ones fro the dealer, or just use something serviceable if you think you might have to get into this again. It does say that when you are re-fitting, not to tighten the shear bolts until after you have checked the operation of the switch.
1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
2. Remove steering column shroud.
3. Release turnbuckles, lower driver’s access
panel.
4. If fitted, remove 4 screws securing knee pad,
remove bolster.
5. Disconnect ignition switch multiplug from fuse
box.
6. Disconnect ignition switch main feed multiplug.
7. Remove bulb holder from steering column lock
shroud.
8. Tap head of shear bolts anti-clockwise to release
them.
9. Remove and discard shear bolts.
10. Detach saddle.
11. Remove steering column lock assembly.
