I actually had someone accidentally snap off my key in my 94 Disco's ignition two days ago. Added to this prob was the fact that I was out off-roading when this occured. I ended up having to remove my ignition switch with a hammer and screwdriver (ouch!) just so I could start it to get back to town! As soon as I can find a wiring diagram, I am going to install an after-market keyed ignition on the dash as a replacement. Ten bucks and I'm back on the trail!

I bought my 2001 Disco with half the key in the ignition switch and the other half about to snap.
I got a used switch, key and door handle.
It was actually a pretty simple swap and I did it last night. I was concerned about those shear bolts, but I got them off with some needle nose vice grips. There were three connectors that had to be pulled off. I didn't even disconnect the battery and the total time was less than 1/2 hr. I re-installed the shear bolts using the same vice grip method. I then took the circuit board out of my old remote and put it in the new one.
Presto!!! No more problems.

I removed the switch two days ago. I grinded a small line in the top of the bolt, and easily I unscrewed them...... Then, I found a pin in the back of the tube that holds the key cylinder, and saw that someone had been there before because the pinwas glued with epoxy. I had to grind the epoxy and then I easily could remove the cylinder.... It was really easy.

Thanks all for the help!!
