Default Need to remove roof bars to paint roof. Headliner question

In the interest of painting the roof of my Discovery 2, I will have to remove the roof bars. Will the entire headliner need to come down to access the retaining bolts underneath for the bars. Any experience in removing the bars would be appreciated

Yes, the headliner comes out to access the bolts for the bars. The headliner is super simple to remove. Just lots of little trim bits to keep track of. The bars simply unbolt.

I would say YES, I have just done my headliner and I did remove the bars to reseal them, the fixing nuts are well in above the headliner, so it needs to come out I got mine out in about 1.5 hours, an the recovered it Material cost my £74 to do the headliner and took about 2 hours to recover but it does look nice,

Thanks for all the replies. I went to the paint shop again today to talk to the manager (he wasn’t in on the first visit). Told him I really would prefer to tape and paint around them. He said it wouldn’t be issue. I have no problem mechanically in dropping the headliner but it was redone by previous owner and looks good. I have no leaks from the bars or sunroofs so I’d rather not tease the monkey!

this was a pretty good tutorial on the removal. Maybe you can gleam some technique on putting it back up from how they removed it.
