Unhappy Need tune up?...only?

Hello bros, my DII is giving me some worriness these days. Everyday in the first 1-5 mins after a cold start, it may either

1) "lock" for 0.1 sec suddenly at low speed. What I mean "lock" is the engine is like dead for just 0.1 sec and comes back to power again. Should I say "choking"?

2) it may not give the DII power when accelerating pedal is stepped on.

3) It may be noisy sometimes at gears change, esp from 1>2 or 2>3.

All of the above only happens in the first few mins after the DII is started. I WISH it is just a tune up problem or spark plugs/wires stuff.

Thanks.

Assuming you have not done a real tuneup in a while:

Do this ASAP:

1) Go to Apex Performance and order 8mm Magnecor wires for $85.

2) Flush ATF and replace your oil in your differential cases and transfer case

3) Go buy a set of good spark plugs

4) Replace wires and plugs (see stickies for changing wires)

What you are calling "lock" is generally a miss or misfire. New plugs and wires will more than likely fix the problem.

Sounds like you need to go through the full 60k service list that is a sticky at the top of the forum. It tells you all the parts you need to buy and what needs to be done. For more information download the RAVE manual by clicking the link in my signature.

Do you have any check engine lights on, if so get the codes read and get back to us. How many miles on your truck and what octane gas are you running?

lipadj46 : Sounds like it's not too complicated for me. BTW, I just had the oil change (Mobil synthetic), air filter (genuine original) change and oil filter (K&N) change 2 months ago.

AK Rover : A full 60k service is too much for me as I don't have a garage. My DII is in a parking spot inside a condo building. The management office may kick me out if I do it and get caught.

Disco Mike : The Check Engine Soon light is ALWAYS on since I had my DII 1.5 yrs ago, even after I replaced the MAF (got from eBay). It is annoying. I forgot the codes but I remember it is something to do with "bank 2 ....too lean...". Mileage is close to 150k and I am always running with Octane 91 gas.

Do yourself a favor and go buy a ODBII scanner, Harbor Freight sells them as well as Wal-Mart.
With the scanner you can read trouble codes and turn off your check engine light.
Whenever your CEL is on there is a problem that can potentially be harmful to your truck.
Just because you fixed one problem does not mean that there is not another.

I thought so too but then this year I slowly started to take over my maintenance. Started with fluid changes, then I changed the wires and plugs, then a hub went bad and I was looking at a $750 repair. I did it myself. Then my head gaskets went bad an I was looking at a $1500 repair so I did that myself too. My point is that before this year I had never bothered to learn about my truck but I have learned that if you are not completely on the ball with these trucks you get in big expensive trouble fast. It's easier and cheaper just to take care of things myself.

Ask questions, don't feel stupid, and we will walk your though anything you feel like doing yourself.

For wires, I should get 8mm Magnecor. Any recommendation for plugs?

Thanks.

Go get it read,"TODAY", before you replay.
