When my 4.6 went tango uniform, and I realized the timing chain was gone, I had the dealer look it over. They offered an engine swap as an option and I could pick where the engine came from.

I think my question caught the fellow off guard, but he said he would find out and get back to me, which he did, indicating that the only approved installer was a Land Rover dealer. I took this as a put off, and I doubted that a LR dealer would even agree to install a third party engine. I decided to call his bluff and called a LR dealer. To my surprise, the dealer indicated that not only they would, but they had installed several AB engines in the past. The second surprise was that their labor was cost was very competitive. I am waiting for a written quote.

Rod, I would only caution you that any new or used stock landrover furnished 4.6 is still more of a timebomb than either motor furnished from either of the 2 mentioned suppliers Cannibal or Great P because of the known liner issue in stock motors. Yea HG and Oil pumps are other issues as well... I have much more confidence in my Cannibal motor than any stock landrover supplied option. They do their best to bullet proof the crap design. WOW I sure generated more response than I expected with this subject! Here is where I am at present. My goal is (1) to find a replacement engine that is as trouble free as possible (2) have it installed by a competent installer and (3) have any problems that might arise in a one year period (minimum) rectified at NO cost to me. I have restricted my search for installers to the New England/New York area as I do not want to have to travel half way across the continent to rectify problems. 1. as stated if you buy a LR engine you are just going to get the same problem as you have.
2. also good luck trying to get someone to warranty their install work; based on someone else machine work.
So i guess you should just right that check to Robinson for $12k; if those are your requirements.

I believe only a very rich masochist would buy a new LR OE engine directly. Only someone with shares in LR would recommend buying one as well. There must be plenty of good quality remans in the US or similar alternatives.
