new buyer oil pump question 03
I posted this in the wrong forum.
Here are my questions
Hello people, I am really close to buying an 03 discovery 2 with 100k miles on it. I have been doing some research and have come across this "oil pump failure" problem that apparently ruins the motor and requires a rebuild or transplant. Is this something that can be prevented? Can the oil pump be replaced so this doesn't happen? I really love the truck I'm interested in but obviously this is a deal breaker if it is just a matter of time before the engine fails. Also are the dimensions the same between the 7 seat disco and the regular disco? Thanks in advance, I did a search before I posted this but didn't find a specific answer.
P.S. anyone have a rough estimate on engine rebuild on this truck?

Read through this thread.

It wont cost any more to rebuild a LR engine than any other V8.
But after you read through the thread you will be better educated on the subject and you will pass on this truck.

I read the thread and yes I think I'll pass, I really want a disco II. Are the 2002's a good year? 2001? and can I do an 03' headlight swap on the the older models? thanks for replying.

You can do a headlight swap, but I have heard it can be costly.
The only difference is the looks and the newer style tends to leak and water collects inside the lens.
It is a easy enough fix, but it is something that needs to be considered.
Any other year than a '03, any.

Also cruise your local repo lots and the back rows of car dealerships.
Alot of Disco's get traded in and then put out back because they have to many miles on them so you wont see them from the street.
But keep in mind, that to many miles for a car dealership's front and second rows does not mean to many miles for you.
I found mine buy cruising the car lots on the wrong side of the tracks, but it was a one owner dealer maintained and the guy who owned the car lot was the guys neighbor.
So if you know what to look for you can still be safe and buy a car from one of those "buy here pay here" POS car lots that your dad warned you about.
Took me 6 months to find my truck, and I did 9 months of research before even looking for it.
