Default New Code P0560 System Voltage

Left home for a month and found battery dead on my 2003 LR Discovery 2. I jumped the car off and trickle charged the battery not all the way. After starting the vehicle I checked for new codes and the System Voltage Code P0560 came up. I'm assuming it is the battery since everything else in the starting system seems to be working?

Google says : System voltage . My alternator is not charging my battery . When jump started from power bank unit , my Service Engine Soon light came on . My drive home was fine , as I think alternator kicked in . I get home , trickle charge overnight , start rover up , and the Service light is gone . Taking the rover back to shop and have alternator replaced . I had a new battery installed one month ago. Hope you can find inspiration from this .

That’s just a generic your battery is f-ed or low charge code. One of those “come and go” type of codes. Really I would not sweat it, but fix the problem that created it, obviously. Battery, alternator, or whatever ...

Also @Tomzsix - Portland guy here too. What color is your D2 and do you ride with PCRC crew ever? Don’t know if I’ve met you?

Yes, Nashvegas , I am in the PCRC club . I'm scheduled to have the rover serviced at West Coast . Then next week , I think , head to Snoqualime for rover school. My D2 is the dark grey with roof rack and four Hella lights . Which one is yours >

Now having trouble starting. Got it running but would not keep running. Engine sounds rough and then it shuts down quickly. Never experienced this before. Could this be a bad alternator?

Yes it could be, but you need to get a multi meter and do a bit of troubleshooting before throwing parts at it

How can I test the alternator with a multimeter?

My battery is under warranty, so I got a free replacement. After installing the new battery, I started the engine. It ran a little longer, but engine still shut down. Did a little research and I can't check Voltage on the alternator due to the engine not running long enough. Bad alternator? Any help appreciated.

I’d like to believe that your new battery was fully charged when you got it, but I would first check the battery voltage with your multi meter. If the voltage is low (say below 12.2v), I would fully charge it then (hopefully it will keep running longer) check the voltage with the engine running.
