Great vehicle choice! There are a number of threads on this forum that deal your question. The main corrosion concern is the rear quarter of the frame can rust out.

Welcome to the forum!

I recommend checking the forum for issues because there are certainly common ones. The 2003 & 2004 Discoveries have particularly troublesome engines that tend to slip cylinder liners and blow head gaskets. The repair for a slipped liner is costly. It happened to the two Discos I've owned and I decided to ditch the Land Rover engine altogether and go with an LS swap on my current Disco. When you check out the vehicle, be sure to get the engine good and warm and drive it around. Then listen to it as it idles after driving. If there is a distinct rhythmic clunking from the engine that goes away at about 1,500 - 2k RPM, just walk away. It's probably got a slipped liner.

Test drive the vehicle and come back to post any concerns you have about it. Be sure to let us know the year too.

Good luck!

Personally, I'd get them to plug in a scan tool to look for stored codes. Lots of little issues like the "3 amigos" which can be a pain to deal with. Your rover will leak; at least that's been my experience owning mine for 12 years 😆.

It's a great vehicle. I will never get rid of it. It's taught me how to be a weekend mechanic and it's a fun hobby.

Honestly just sit on the forums for a few hours and Google any questions you may have just to gain as much knowledge as possible. It is quite helpful.

Hold out for the right one. Market is skunk right now (in my region). For now watch every repair video you can find, read every thread you can, and try to memorize an inspection test list. When I got mine I lucked out and it was from a member here, lucked out cause I was not in shape to inspect at all (He was honest and forward about everything). Glad to hear that you did not get a rough one. They are special trucks and just click with some people, and it is a horrid thing for that experience to be stolen by puchasing one that is uncared for for your first Disco.
