Default New D2 Owner, questions regarding service

Hi guys, so 2 months ago I decided I wanted a headache and purchased a 2004 one owner D2 with 120k. This is a weekend car to go hiking in etc. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into but needless to say my car has been in the shop for about half of its life with me not complaining though.
The car was a single owner from Scottsdale AZ, I live in Santa Monica CA. I used Mitchells british automotive and Ian was a pleasure to work with. Here is what has been done so far:
- Engine Gasket Seals Replaced
- Front Brake Pads done
- Engine Mounts replaced
- Front tire rod replaced
- Something with the Viscous Coupling
- A multitude of stock cosmetic replacements (Rick of Elite Auto in Sun Valley supplied me.

Now here is some lingering issues:
Mechanical
- A lot of heat coming off the engine even when I drive just 2 miles.
- Steering Wheel makes noise when turning the wheel (maybe it needs lube)
- There is a tick tick tick noise when the car is de-celerating. Not
sure if this is normal.
- The "service engine soon" light just came on the other day
- About once a week I get 3 lights that come on: Brake/TC/ABS. After
turning off the car and restarting it they go away. I just had the
front brakes done from a non land rover shop.
- I get an odor of fluids inside the cabin once the car has been
running for 10 or so minutes.
- The indicator light sometimes delays from indicating. I will put the
indicator for a left turn and about 5 seconds later it will finally
start blinking.
- The wipers don't really work. I have to keep my hand on the lever to
make them move.
- I am assuming it is due for the 120k service as I don't think its
been done yet.

The car is being worked on by Rick at Elite Auto in Sun Valley tomorrow. And I provided him with the above checklist. He said he would recommend doing the cylinder head gaskets as coolant maybe leaking into the engine (something Ian at Mitchells already confirmed, it did pass the Block test).

My question to you guys is: Is there anything else that should be done as preventative on my car? I want it to be reliable and am willing to invest into this thing. I bought the car for $5k and have done $2200 of work already.

Much appreciated!!

hey,
you need a 3 amigos code scanner to figure out the issue with the brakes... those 3 idiot lights that you have on... check it with them on. hopefully its something simple, like shuttle valve leak.

maybe time for a new radiator, thermostat and cap. check into the thermostat mod that gets rid of the brit thermostat and uses a gm thermostat and drops the temp by 20F with a 180F thermostat. good if you are in hot climate.

get an ultragauge to keep an eye on running temps

check if front driveshaft has nipples to grease it, if not need to rebuild or get a better one.

rotella dino 15W 40 is great in rovers, change when it hits a 5 or a 0 (every 5K)

check power steering pump

check plugs and wires...

trans fluid, rear dif fluid

spare brake switch in the car

check the stickies for service suggestions

I'm not a mechanic, but i have done most of these things and have a great running rover and have done a couple 8,000 mile road trips across country with almost no problems. find a good indy mechanic and you should be happy

1. The cooling system on these trucks is designed to heat up very quickly.
2. Probly a power steering pump issue
3. Not sure, could be pads or drive shaft issue (see link below)
4. You'll have to have the codes pulled to know what is causing the SES light.
5. Visit this site and give the web address to your mechanic You want "Option B".
6. What does it smell like? Anitfreeze smells kind of sweet while oil smells bad. This could be caused by many, many things.
7. Sounds like you need to have the switch replaced in the steering column.
8. Sounds like you need to have the switch replaced in the steering column.
9. It's probly time to replace all the fluids at least

Also, read this post I wrote to another new Disco owner.

You also should probly just replace the crankshaft position sensor. They are fairly cheap to replace, but tend to fail with no warning and leave people stranded.
