The first 9 days with my 2004 SE7 have been interesting but fun. First half tank of gas-14.4 mpg refilled at the same station drive another half tank(same drives, same weather)-9.5mpg?

But here's the strange thing ABS,T/C and brake light fire up on day 2 at an intersection leaving my neighborhood. ABS is on after restart for about 200 feet. The lights only come on at that intersection and only if I turn right. Flatirons LR scheduled me for 2008[:-]. I went to a local independant and the truck shows no codes active or stored.

Disco Mike I would appreciate your opinion, if you could respond here or give me a call at (303) 882-2865 when you have a chance, thanks. Jeff

Your local independent shop probably can't read the ABS codes ... You will get lots of answers on forums about what is causing your problem , but I can tell you based on my experience that the only way you are going to fix your malfuntioning ABS system is to replace your ABS modulator at a cost of $1900 + labor. Or you could throw parts at it like changing brake pads, 'repairing'/replacing wheel speed sensors or wheel hub assemblies, etc. Just replace the modulator and you should be fine. Just take it to a dealer and have them read the codes and if any thing comes up about a 'shuttle valve fault' then replace the modulator. You will want to do this ASAP because without the system functioning , when those lights are on, you lose ABS function, traction control and hill descent control--and there is no reason to be driving around in a 'new'vehicle thatdoesn't function properly.

Be prepared as a new owner of a Disco to spend alot of $$$ getting it in order. They have lots of problems and if the previous owner did not maintain your '04 well, you will be fixing alot of 'common issues'.

Not to rain on your new purchase but this is the way it goes with these trucks. I purchased my '03 on Oct. 28th 2007 and it has been at the dealer nearly 12 times and I have only been able to drive it for about20 days and so far I have spent over $7000 on repairs to restore the truck to a respectable condition.....All is now well except for a nasty exhaust rattle and a slight oil leak, but many will tell you 'these trucks just leak and there is nothing that you can do/worry about'...

Have fun with your new Disco....It will go anywhere!

just out of curiosity, how much experience do you have? The ABS can still work if the lights are on, and most times it is a faulty wheel sensor. If the shuttle valve code comes up, the repair kit has worked for many people. Sounds like you had a very bad experience, but that doesn't mean this guy should go out and replace the modulator without having it checked out.

You don't have to shell out a ton of money to get these things back in order. I have only spend about $2K and mine was beat to death when I got it.. If you can find the right prices on parts and do the work yourself, they are actually relatively inexpensive to repair. If you take it to the dealer everytime, It will cost you.

My post was rather scatterbrained. I did not just blindly replace the modulator to fix my problem . It was a long process to arrive there. The Experience that I refer to in my post was not neccessarily automotive expertise as much as it was literally my experience in dealing with my own Land Rover Discovery.

My Amigos showed up intermittently about a day after I drove my truck home from the Mitsu dealer where I purchased it. The ABS codes could only be read if the lights were on so we drove around town for days trying to get them on but of course they would only come on when the dealer was closed! Before we could get it into the dealer with the lights glowing, the front diff assembly exploded with my wife and kids driving on I-75 at 10:00 at night. After it was towed to the dealer and the entire front diff assembly was replaced, the amigos stayed on solid so the dealer pulled the codes and showed 'wheel hub assembly' and 'shuttle valve malfunction'. I OK'd the wheel hub replacement and told them to clear the codes. The amigos showed up intermittently a day later. Other problems occured as well soit was back for repairs time and time again.I tried the 'shuttle valve fix' which did not work. I then had the modulator replaced and have gone for 9 days now with full ABS function, TC function, and HDC function and NO intermittent amigos!

I went to the dealer for these repairs because I do notknow of any quality/knowledgeable indy Rover shops in Dayton and I didn't want to take any chances, plus the dealer is only 2 miles from my house and I didn't know a whole lot about these vehicles because I had just bought one!I now have a Rave manual and full parts diagram CD. I am still learning things about Rovers, but I purchased a used vehicle that appeared to be in excellent condition from a reputable dealership and had no idea that I would have to replace so much stuff so soon after buying it.

My experience has obviously been much different than yours and others in Disco land.

Repairs since car was purchased from Mitsu dealer on Oct. 28 , 2007:

11/2 - general bugs fixed/ maintenance: replaced OEM wipers, adjusted rear gate, installed vent tubes in headlight assemblies to drain water/condensation from lights, replaced rusty license plate lights, various bulbs replaced
$433.10 (I' m now thinking ' wow, I brought this car back to new-like condition for only $400!) Ha, ha.

11/20 - front diff explodes on highway: replaced entire front differential assembly.
$1900.00

11/26 - front pass window wont work, wheel hub assembly throwing ABS codes, amigo lights: replaced front pass side window regulator, replaced ft/rt wheel hub assembly.
$926.44

11/28 - more codes thrown, no HDC or 'M' transmission mode functions while in low gear: replaced more vac lines, replaced faulty transfer mode switch.
$183.10

11/30 - lean codes thrown: replaced air filter and vacuum lines and vac reservoir.
$130.42

12/1 - all over the road at any speed, horrible ride: 5 new tires.
$1100.00

12/10 - ABS lights(amigos) intermittent still: performed shuttle valve kit replacement.
$110.00 (I'm now thinking- woohoo the lights shall be gone!)

12/13 - abs lights intermittent, losing ABS , TC and HDC function: replaced ABS modulator.
$2345.63

12/18 - losing about 1/2 gallon of coolant every 2-3 days , lean codes thrown: replaced Intake Gaskets andall related parts, replaced MAF sensor unit.
$1051.88

$8180.57 since Oct.28 2007.[&o]

I just didn't want the original poster to think that the module replacement was the only way to fix the three amigo's. When I read your post, that's what it sounded like you were saying.

Again, sorry to hear about your luck with your truck..

Just to follow-up. I went to Flatirons LR on my appointment date to tell them I couldn't get the lights back on so there was no reason to check for codes. (I know none were stored). At the same time a guy comes in w/ an 04 with the same 3 lights on, the service writer has a tech run out w/ a T4 to check his codes, and tells me if mine come on to stop in anytime and they will do the same.

Monday morn. I get the lights on and drive to Flatirons. I explain the situation to the 3 service writers sitting there doing nothing! and they respond like I had asked them to cure cancer. They finally decided only "Dave" would ask a customer to make such an outrageous request[:-]After the 3 of them stared at me in disbelief for 30 seconds, Bob said, "Let me see if I can find a tech who can do that" 10 minutes later Bob asked If I left the engine running(of course) After another 10 he says the tech is out on a test drive. Fifteen minutes later
(40 Min. total w/ my Disco burning gas in the service drive) Bob doesn't know where the tech is and won't bother to find out. I get the General managers card and go.

Needless to say I'm done with Flatirons, but since the Disco is certified I do need a LR dealer. Any advice on which one in the Denver area -LR east or LR south I should take my business to would be appriciated. Sorry for the rant, thanks for the advice. Jeff

I've had good luck with Flatirons so far. I would drop it off there and tell them firmly but politelythat you're tired of the lights coming on, how to duplicate the problem, and that you don't want it back until they can guarantee that the problem has been found and properly corrected.

Cheers,
Dave

the abs unit will still have the fault even if the three light are not on (abs,hd,tc)
blink code 11,4 shuttle valve switch electrial failure is the one everyone on this
forums' talking about with the modulator.
