Default new to discos

I bought a used 97 Discovery at auction last month (not a smart idea) Anyway, it came with no owners manual so I'm kinda flying blind here with some of the gauges, the transer gear (how it works). I took it in to the local Land Rover dealer to have a buyers inspection check and found that it needs quite a few new gaskets and rear brake pads. The brakes I could do myself so I would just need to aks anyone where is a good place to get the correct kind. And the other question is since it will be quite a bit of money to replace the gaskets, would it be more economical to just repalce the engine with a reconditioned one? Probably a stupid question but since I have the trcuk now may just as well fix it! Any help is aprecaiated!

Not a bad idea if you got a really good deal and don't mind fixing it. Mine came from an auction and it's in great shape. How many miles do you have on your engine and what kind of shape is the body in?

It has 137000 miles, and the body is in good shape. No visable rust or excessive wear and tear. (however I did manage to get it stuck in a foot and a half of mud this last weekend!) It drives very well. Better than my old 4-Runner which it replaced>

Just make sure your shifter is back and to the right. If you drive on dry pavement with it to the left (locked), it will grind things up.
