Default New front propshaft - heavy duty neccessary?

New front prop shaft time.

I got my 2003 D2 with no previous owner information. It has Terrafirma shocks. The springs are grey but I'm unsure of the lift. Measurement is 35.5 inches from the ground to the fender arch. I have 245 x 75 x 16inch wheels.

My question is do I really need a Tom Woods drive shaft with what I think is a small lift.

I'd like to get a service-able prop shaft.

This is a weekend car that sees about 5,000 miles a year and only goes off road on trials a couple of times a year. Uwharrie State Park in North Carolina.

I wanted to get the less expensive prop shaft from Lucky8 but should I go ahead and order the Tom Woods?

Thanks,

Agreed, big lift or heavy wheeling Tom woods all day long. Little lift and light wheeling the standard greaseable from Lucky8 is just fine

Ken, In my opinion you don't need a Tom Woods front driveshaft. From what I've learned the L8 front driveshaft should serve you well.

I have a Lucky 8 and it works great, just make sure to actually grease it regularly.

my Lucky8 front prop shaft just failed on me the other day. fortunately i heard the u-joints clicking before it locked up and exploded.

i run a two (2) inch lift and 275-65-18 tires. i put about about 60,000 miles or so on the Lucky8 prop shaft over the last several years. i drive this truck everyday and have taken it through the Rockies and Smokies both on and off road.

you may want to all Lucky8 about which front driveshaft they recommend for your application. i don't think they recommend that driveshaft for any lift two (2) inches or higher.

My Lucky8 driveshaft failed within 100 miles of new while on an easy trail. It turned into a pretzel on a small incline. I just have a 1" lift with slightly oversized AT tires.

I now run Tom Woods.
