Default New grey thermostat and radiator

So just had the new Behr/Hella radiator & grey LR thermostat installed. Temps are now topping at 191F vs 208-210F before. So Far very happy with the new changes.

Don't forget to add a bottle of Water Wetter to the coolant.

Quick Question - Where did you purchase the thermostat? Just finish putting on head gaskets, started right up but somehow the pulley cut the top hose of the thermostat to waterpump. Since I need to replace the hose, might as well replace the thermostat.

It was a direct replacement, right - Nothing to modify, right?

Of course that is the most expensive hose of the set! No special mod for the grey thermo...

I just replaced my tstat this evening and ordered the motorad 439-180. This one opens fully at 180 instead of half way like the factory version. Brought my idle temp down to 195. I havent road tested it yet but I will repost. I think the tstat on ebay was 35$$. Highly suggested by a another senior member that was a former rover technician.

Curious...is it normal for a D1 to NOT have a thermostat installed? I took off the hose only to find that there was not a thermostat...any issues this may have caused?

Alert! Previous owner had over heat problem he could not solve. I experimented with mine, with no stat in summer time it ran 140 - 150. I tried 160 stat, did not like it. 180 stat ($10 from most parts stores) does a great job. Note that coil end goes inside the block.
