Question New Head Unit

I'm sure this has been asked many times (though not as oftren as tire size or oil type), but I'm looking to update the head unit in my Disco II SE7. Yes has rear controlls and I believe an amp under the front pass. seat.

I previously installed a Joying unit, but have been getting a large amount of static and the lowest volume setting is quite loud. I'm guessing this is related to the amp. Is there a way to bypass or fix this issue from those who've done joying units? If not I was thinking about swapping to the
Jensen VX7014 Jensen VX7014
. Am I likely to run into the same issues with this head unit? Is there another unit that people have had good success with around the $250 price point?

Thanks in advance!

You need to get the harness that uses the RCA outputs from the head unit. If you use the harness that comes with the Joying unit, then you're taking the signal from the amp in the head unit and then passing it to the vehicle amp. That's why it's so loud and why you have a lot of hiss. The RCA outputs are not amplified.

I ordered the Kenwood KMM-X503 from Crutchfield. It came with the harness/removal tools and a black insert to finish out the dash. It was under $110 and sounds great! Had to call support during installation because for some reason the amp was not getting power. Dude walked me through a work around and it worked like a champ
BTW I passed on the steering wheel control harness cause I didnt think I would need it

Nice. I too passed on the steering wheel controls (the extra cost was outrageous, as I recall), its been 8 months and I haven't missed it even a little. I'll take the Disco now just to listen to music because it sounds so great compared to my other car!

Yes. I'm using offline maps (I'm using an app called "Off Road") and it works fine.

This is what I put in mine. It is a 10.1" screen. I was able to hook up the steering controls without an adapter. I got the wire harness and it made the install super easy. Took about an hour to put it in. The upgrade cost around $200.

So what control do you get from steering wheel buttons..there are three. I have two steering control inputs on my system, yet to be hooked up...

Which disco wires were for steering wheel inputs? Were they on one of the little colored plugs?

You only need to use two of the three wires from the Disco. One is a common and the other is the resistance differential. If the head unit is based on Android, you should be able to see the signals on an assignment table.
I was able to get mine working without any trouble. I'll try to remember to come up with some details next time I venture outside.
