Default New Headlights, too strong?

Hey,
I recently purchased a pair of Halogen headlights which are the bright and regular lights package off of Ebay. When they are arrived it said that they are H4 12v 100/90W. But when I was looking at other headlights for my Disco II 1999 on the internet, they said that they were only H4 12v 45/55.
So are these lights that I purchased too strong? Or can I still use them for my Disco?

Thanks,

/Robin

Watch your wiring/switches.

Iput those in my Jeep once and the headlight switch overheated and started cycling on and off.

I run a set of 85/100W Hella H4's and love them. I have not experienced any wiring or switch problems using them on my 99 D2. I have never been flashed by on coming traffic even though I know I am putting out alot more power, they do tend to refocus the beam giving it a better pattern down the road.
OH and the other thing is they are illegal in most states, course there is no way to determine this. I have been running mine for over 3 years.

Seems that they don't really have a law about these lights in Colorado as I checked out some website.
But these won't burn out my wiring will they? They won't mess up the whole headlight. Because I don't want them to be pushing too much.
You said you were pushing 85/100W, I've got the 100/90W, are mine stronger or weaker?

The law is a Federal law, not a state law. As for the powere, you have your numbers backwards, should show 90/100W meaning 90 watts at low beam and 100 at high beam.
After I first installed my lights, I watched them, paying attention to any extra heat thru the wire harness and switch. So far, no problem and great driving.

I just called Atlantic Ocean, they couldn't help me too much since I didn't order the lights from them, but off of Ebay.
On the actual package it says H4 12V 100/90W, the rest is in Japanese or Chinese haha.
But yesterday I went over to a guy that works for Pro Comp and we checked it out, he said as long as its H4 and the 12 V matches, that it should be fine.
I also talked to a cop, they said that there aren't any way to prove the the lights are too bright from the federal regulations, only if they actually open the hood and check out the lights. Which I doubt that any cop will do.
I'm putting these babies on today! Wish me luck!

Just be sure to watch the wires and connections like Mike said. The more amps you pull through a wire, the hotter it gets. Higher watts means higher amps. I have a D1, so I am not sure what gauge of wire is running to your lights, but I am sure it will be fine. But make sure you check. It won't hurt.

Good Luck. I was thinking of doing the same thing, I can't hardly see crap at night. I got new Sylvania super whites, but they are the same wattage. It made a drastic improvement over the old bulbs...I think the driver's side was still original. Let us know how it works out..

Oh, and I am suprised you got a reply from the Atlantic Ocean. I always try, and it just waves.

I've had higher power Sylvania bulbs in my '03 Disco 2 for almost a year now and no problems. I've heard horror stories from other car owners (non rover) where their harnesses suffered a meltdown, but none from disco owners, and mine are dandy.

Here's a place with more than you ever wanted to know about headlight bulbs. It is very informative.
