Default new heads/gaskets...how much$$$$??

Roughly how much do most shops charge to have head/head gasket work done? Rover overheated at 105K, I'm sure it needs it, all the symptoms are there. I know to be wary, but my Rover guy that runs his own shop is wonderful, I trust him, and he knows my often-dire money situation.
Normally how much, parts and labor? I have no problem with re-used/re-machined parts, BTW. I want to be sitting and ready when he lets me know tomorrow.

Normally your heads are machined and re-used. The warp limit is less than the thickness of your printer paper. Most shops charge about 14 hours for the job, plus parts. DIY you can figure $300 parts plus $200 or so machine shop and two weekends of wrenching.

Or you can get a price like I did for $1700 for a shop to do the work! I almost fell over, but I don't think I am gonna have to go there, thank god!

$1700 is actually cheaper than I thought. But still awful.

Atlantic British sells the kit for $199.00 and its a easy job to do. Really easy no special tools and the engine was built before we even had all the cool tools that we have today. Just roll up your sleeves and get-r-done.
