This has always been my method as well. I changed three on mine, I think around 25k miles on the oldest one. Never had a lick of issue.

Hi, I got around this by using a torque multiplier, at 5 to 1 ratio, you only need a small input to get a large output,

Using a torque multiplier to remove nuts? Good.
Using a torque multiplier to torque down a nut? Not good.

I worked in the off shore oil industry were tool like this were use all the time, until we went to hydro jacks, so yes if it calibrated and certified it can be used to get the higher torques needed

I might be cheap but I don't see myself needing to buy a 360 ft/lbs torque wrench that I will need for possibly a two time occurrence. I'll just rent one.
I've got a nice 25-250 ft/lbs Tekton torque wrench that does nicely for my Disco.

Yes I agree, its some times easier to hire one than a big torque wrench, just don't forget to check the ratio before setting you torque wrench, as a 5 -1 would only need 50ft/lbs to output 350, plus a little for tool loss

but then where are you based, as I have both, 600ft torque and a multplier
