New info for old problems
Hi everyone, especially Mike.
So, I was on here a while ago with my first post being how much I love my landrover, but hate how it has been completely unreliable from the getgo.
It started with a very minor hesitation problem with very high idle at startup. Cleaned everything, bought a new tps, new idle stepper, etc. Now will idle at 1500 on startup (down from 2000) only when cold. But then it started misfiring-and backfiring. Still no check engine light. Was able to pull the following codes
in this order
300, 308, 306, 304, 1314, and 1316. I know the first 4 are engine misfires. The 1314 is cat related and the 1316 is something about spark. Any new ideas or help?
Thanks

1316 is an excessive emission fault. The 1314 makes since because you have 3 cylinders on the pass bank that are misfiring.
Pull a couple plugs from both banks, I bet you will find that the pass bank will be fouled or sooted. May consider replacing the plugs and wires, Magnaco 8mm wires, and that should take care of the running problem.
As for the idle issue, I would suggest you check all intake seals and hoses for a vaccum leak.

We changed all the plugs last night. None appeared to be too bad. All the wires are good. One was black on the passenger side, number 8 I believe. The rest were fine. At this point I am very confused as to why I got all of those codes and no check engine light. It almost has to be electrical. Could it be the ecu itself? All I know is it keeps getting worse, and since this is my daily driver, I am in a bit of a bind.
Just to clarify, it starts fine. It runs great when it is cold for probably about 5 minutes. Then every few minutes or so it will hesitate. The hesitation spells can last up to 15-20 seconds. Under load, it will hesitate until I give it more gas, it downshifts, and the rpms hit around 3k. It does not really hesitate if I am going at a constant 60-70mph. I can still feel the occasional misfire, however. As soon as I get it below 55, every few minutes it hesitates. Sometimes I will hear a backfire, as well.
Changing the spark plugs didn't really seem to help any.
Also, about the vacuum leak suggestion. I put my hand in front of the air intake and it dies immediately. Therefore, it is doubtful that there is a vacuum leak, right?

I bet when, or if he pulls the plugs, they will be fouled, I am still thinking electrical.

I thought that had been checked, if it was me it would be a
valve job.
Mine had a valve job at 12,000 miles, dueto tight of valve stems.
LR took care of that.
What do you mean the wires are good? Unless you just put new Magnacors on, I wouldn't say they are good. My truck never ran as good as it has with the new wires. I went through 2 new Bosch sets, they are junk
On anything before 98, you don't have the carbon cutters on the valve stems, and it is very possible you have a valve/s sticking.
