Default new to Land Rover

ok, here is my question. I am going to be purchasing a new-to-me SUV and i have found a Land Rover Discovery 2 in my area for $6000.00. it has 106,000 miles and looks to be in great shape. they offer a carfax going to have my mechanic look at it too. Is there anything I should consider when looking at it? any and all help is appreciated.

read all the sticky threads on here..avoid '03s within the oil pump failure range...replace front diveshaft u-joints with greaseable u-joints if it has originals...pull codes, sometimes used car lots remove bulb so check engine light will not come on

I've looked around, and $6,000 for a 2003 isn't that steep, hilltoppersx. I've seen 2003s that are around $5,500 to $9,600 on the Western part of the United States.

for some reason i have heard people say that in Washington state they are expensive. in that case i would fly half way across the country to pick one up and drive it back. I got a 99 se7 for $1,000 (two weeks ago), 99 se for $3k (2 years ago)and I’m looking at another 99 se7 for $1,500. all with under 100k.

This is true...

For example...there's a wrecked '97(ish) DI with over 120K miles that some guy has had on CL for at least 6 months....asking $4500....ridiculous.

They're not cheap down south either. I've seen a few, same year as mine, going from $4,500 - $6000. Makes me want to sell mine and get another one with a bad engine.

Hilltopper, If you don't mind me asking what kind of shape are those 99's your picking up for $1,500 and $3,000? I looked at a 99 with 126,000mi last week and they are asking 5,900.Thanks

they are in good shape. body is straight leather is great but they ahve typical Disco problems yet to deal with. Headgaskets (although not leaking yet or causing a CEL, they were not done and both are around 90k), throttle body gasket, front drive shaft rebuilt. Other than that they are not too bad. just need a good service with fluids, serp belt, wires, plugs, throttle body cleaned up, can of seafoam thru the intake and a fresh tank of hi octane loaded with some cleaner.

Default rust?

Any rust on those discos coming from up north? I am looking to sell my 01 D2 now, but will be looking for another down the road a bit...wife is pregnant and I am getting a company car (i hope). I am already looking at the markets to see where would be a good area to pick one up from. Austin does not seem to offer many
