Default New to me D2 and a Roadtrip

Recently purchased my 8th Rover. 2004 D2. This being the first D2 I've owned that I can actually drive. My first one had a knocking motor. I have to say I'm impressed. Having driven an RRC and several D1's, I sort of expected much of the same sort of behavior. I noticed immediately that the 4.6 has quite bit more power. I'm pressed with how smooth and we'll handling this truck is. Last minute (the week before Christmas ) we decided to spend the holiday with my wife's grandparents in Northern California. This would put me driving through the Lake Tahoe area.

I spent a week checking it over and changing all the fluids and fitting new tires. 275-65-18 BFG KO2. They are a little big but a 2-3" lift is in the near future. After checking all I could we loaded up the dog our luggage, presents and a ton of tools, spares, fluids and even a spare battery. We set off on a 700 mile trip in a Rover I had only owned for a week.

I was very very impressed with this truck. I think I can safely say this is my favorite one I've owned. My RRC was a brute off road but this one is world's beyond that one on the road. I did 75-80 almost the entire way. My ultra gauge hadn't arrived yet so I used my plug in scanner reading real time Temps. I never went above 205.

We hit a huge snow storm in late afternoon in Reno. The truck did amazing. The KO2'S are seriously impressive even deep snow. The traction control really works well. Some pics from the way up:

We found a small road to really take in the snow

Looks like a blast. We planning our trip to florida 1k miles in February and plan to take extra starter, alternator, and battery. Hate to pack heavy but dont like sitting on side the road. Wish had safari rack to put all in, it will be me, her, and four kids. But I figured the rover as manley alternative to a mini van. Have you got to play with and without the cdl engaged in the snow? Looks fun keep it safe.

Awesome! That's what these trucks are all about! Great pics, love that last one. Have to agree, for $4k you can't a truck as smooth and capable with all the bells and whistles. With ACE, mine corners so flat it's hard to believe. Gas mileage sucks, and my 2000 D2 struggles up long inclines, and of course reliability is always a concern, but I'm a Disco convert!

Thats awesome! Looks mean on those tires too. Too bad they probably rub six ways from Sunday on stock height, dont they?

They are tight but don't rub until full turn. They are tight.

On the way back from CA wasn't as pleasant. I decided to stop at Walker Lake to let my dog run. It looked like it was hard packed sand. It was not. It was sand covered mud. I drove out and got stuck. 2 hrs of digging and I finally gave up and called a tow truck. 200 dollars later and I was finally out. The ordeal cost me 3 hours. And an interior full of mud. I was not happy .
