A 04 followed us home today. Needs engine work or replacement, but it seriously clean, top and bottom.

The madness is strong here...lol. Actually, not sure what l'm doing yet. Originally planned on using the new white one for a build...but...it is nicer than our 03...so...maybe the 04 will become my wife's daily and l'll turn hers into a new rover for me. Granted, this means changing out the transfer case. Luckily, l have an 04 transfer case and shifter under the work bench. Bought this 04 from the original owner, it was well loved.

Is it a darn Oreo? White with black interior? That was one of my favorite color combo’s! I like Vienna Green & Black as well. Congrats on the new addition to the family!

Nice score Brian. I had another truck follow me home last weekend, but I strayed from the marque.

Brian.
This is like my wife’s worst nightmare and my dream. I’d have an Overlander, Steaight Road tripper, and a rallye D2.

Yeah, but it's a Range Rover, right?

To answer your other question, the engine was overheated, owners daughter did the deed coming home from college, anti-freeze in the oil. Tentatively, my plans are to pull the engine and assess damages.

The vehicle is basically a time capsule, inside and out. Definitely deserves the right treatment, best engine rebuild. I know folks are going to say it would be a good candidate for a LS swap...but in my mind it's to nice to Frankenstein. Not that there's anything wrong with this type of swap, but keeping this one as close to original seems right.

Options milling around my brain so far...

1) Have D&D Fabricating sleeve this engine, remanufacture the heads and l'll finish a rebuild. They are right around the corner, literally, so no shipping involved.

2) Pull engine out of my 01 (4.0, which has lifter issues after drowning a couple years ago...but runs fine) and use this block and the internals out of the 04's engine (crank, rods, cam, pistons, etc). Basically, turning the 4.0 into a 4.6 with old block.

3) Find a decent 4.6, refreshen and then swap out.

4) Replace head gaskets and see what happens.

CollieRover, it is completely opposite here. My wife would have a barn full of these things, if she could. She even mentioned this yesterday on the way home with "Lilly". I was willing to walk after stalled negotiations with owner, and it was really to nice for what I was looking for (new trail rig build). But, my wife persuaded me to purchase it anyway.

Looks like l need to start building a barn...lol.

And it looks like we will be doing exactly what you dream of, her daily driver 04, my overland 03 and Frankenstein the 01 for a serious off-road machine.

Brian.
