new owner
hey guys this is my first post on this website and i have a few questions about my new truck. i just got an 02 discovery se with about 70,000 miles on it. so far i love it to death but there are some things that are nerv racking to me as a new owner. maybe some of this is normal but i just want to make sure.
1. every time i lift off of the accelerator i can feel this clunking feeling. can you tell me what this might be or is it normal for these vehicles. this is my 1st 4 wheel drive vehicle and i dont know if it has anything to do with that or not but anyways ...
2. while i was driving back from the dealer my father and i noticed a very slight whine comming from somewhere. could this be a driveline issue that is related to the clunk ?
3. are there any ways to get better gas mileage. my last truck was a ford sporttrac with lift, tires, roofrack .... pretty much everything to kill the mileage so im used to emptying my wallet at the gas stations but with the disco having a larger tank and higher octane fuel im looking for anything to help.
any replies would be great !!

1 AND 2 - At 70K your ready to replace your U-joints. Unless you know for sure it has already been done, replace them regardless and that may fix your whine and clunk noise. Do this asap cause if you don't you could turn your transmission into a potato masher.
3. Look into Magnacor wires and Bosch Platinum plugs. Check air filter. Being a disco not much you can do. Figure out excatly what sort of gas mileage your getting and get back to us.

If you got 350 miles outta your last tank, I would be bowing down to your truck and thanking her!
I only get around 270-280 per tank! :S
The wires and plugs that were suggested are a great start!
But one thing that is a constant mention is to keep her maintained! Always run premium gas, and love her to death!

Both the klunk and the t/case whne are normal.
I would suggest you plan on doing a fairly major servious on this truck, especially if it didn't have the 60K done.
I you want, I can send you an extensive list of stuff to do, that if you are at all mechanical, you can do on your driveway.

im glad to hear that the klunk and whine are normal. the dealer that sold the vehicle said that it underwent a full maintenance service right before i bought it at 74k miles.should i be alright with this or do i need to look into servicing/replacing parts? i also want to add that ifound reccords that the 60k service was skipped and done right before the purchase.
johnnybob , those were all highway miles so im guessing i'll be seeing the same numbers as you next week

yeah i can do some very minor things if told how to. i dont have any real experience turning a wrench but im sure i can do it if it comes down to it. do you think i can get that list from you ?
