Yeah the fluid and the pressure turn the pump.

 

Sorry, I intended to say the belt turns the pump causing the fluid to build the pressure...anyway you got it working...old pump was toast. I'm sure I will be do for this soon.

 

I bought my 2004 SE with 95,000 miles.
Couple weeks later I noticed a horrible knocking noise once the engine warmed up, it seemed to stop when I'd turn the wheel. Quick disconnection of the serp helped me diagnose where noise was coming from. It was without question the Power Steering Pump.

With the belt removed, the old pump made an odd clicking sound and had significant resistance when I would turn it by hand. I purchased a used OEM pump from a junkyard, upon removing the failed one, I discovered that it was a rebuilt pump (it had a sticker on it) installed the new pump, did a thorough fluid flush, and I've been golden ever since.

I have no idea how long ago the replacement rebuilt pump was installed, but it failed without question, I'm expecting the used pump I installed to fail eventually, but I'll definately get my moneys worth for $60. And it's a fairly easy job when It needs to be done again.
