Default New power steering pump making noise after bleeding steering box

This one has me pretty stumped. Installed new pump and it sounded fine at first start up then it started to whine. With the motor of I attached a clear hose to the bleed valve on the steering box and turned the wheel each way until bubbles stopped. I would turn to the left, stop then wait until it stopped bubbling then turn right and wait for the bubbles stopped. I repeated this until there were no bubbles present. I would wait a few minutes after every turn to make sure the there was no more air.

It still whines. Should repeat this process with the motor running with the clear bleeder hose running from the valve to the power steering reservoir?

Hi Frank, I am just about to replace my pump as well. Where did you get your pump? Is is a factory OEM or aftermarket version?

Yes, repeat it with the hose running to reservoir.

Went back after I posted and did the bleed with it running. I think I discovered a new problem, the fluid I am able to observe coming out of the bleed valve and through the clear tube is foamy. And the reservoir is foamy as well. I installed a new power steering hose from the reservoir to the pump during the install so I am pretty sure I am good there. Can this aerated fluid be the culprit?

Can the filer built in to the reservoir cause this if it’s obstructed?

I bought a Cardone 21-5255 off of Amazon. It was $170. It came in a what looked like a legit Cardone box. I had no hesitation about installing it.

If you’ve never done the job before don’t worry about it. It’s extremely straight forward. Atlantic British has a good video that’s worth watching before you dig in.

I doubt the filter is causing it, although the foamy oil is an indication you have a lot of air in it. You can let it sit without running and the oil will defoam itself. When you do the bleed be sure there is an air gap between the hose discharge and the fluid level so that the air in the hose does not immediately get sucked back down in to the intake pump. You need the air gap to separate the air from the fluid.

Yeah I hear what you are saying. I drive this truck less than 2.5k miles a year and figured why not but this super aerated fluid and groaning has me questioning that choice. Thing is the power steering itself feels great. No dead spots and smooth steering.
