Damn, but that's a rover part - pricey!

Perhaps you can check the voltages shown in the picture... At least then you'll rule it out if it isn;t the problem and save a couple hundred!

I too have an 03 and have experienced the same problem.

I've had the same blinking lights, code and inability to shift into gear. I'm not too concerned with the occurrence.

I simply turned the engine off and did a restart. The blinking lights extinguished, I cleared the code with my OBD2 and the vehicle has shifted properly ever since. I've driven probably 40K since then.

Considering the hundreds of elements that become active at start-up it seems logical that an occasional error will occur.

I have not heard of this part going bad but that doesnt mean that it cant happen.
I do not know how you would test it.

UHB100190 Gear position switch (AKA neutral safety switch) $198.00 @ British Pacific

I also found this - I know it's for an '01, but it may help!

Thanks, I spoke to the guys at Roverland and they have them used for $125.00. Not sure if I should buy this used or not.
