if you can find and afford one, get an 04. they have the best combo of comfort and capability. the 04 has the CDL, TC, and a bigger (4.6) engine. the model (SE, S, etc.) doesn't matter, unless you're picky about bells and whistles.

be careful in your search and find owners that kept meticulous service records.

Well thanks guys, Ill be looking for an 04 it looks like. And 15mpg would be great compared to my 11 average now.

I did see some 04's but they were high mileage. Is that 4.6l a ford engine plant? The hummer has spoiled me, 4w lock 4:1 locking t-case but it will be nice to have a SFA again.

This is getting me excited. I always wanted these tires called green diamond icelanders but they dont make the bigger sizes. If I can find a rover I can get some.

Heres what Im looking at. Anymore advice will be greatly appreciated. Its hard going from something you know inside and out to not knowing anything like the HSE7 meant it had an extra seat, I thought it was somthing way cooler than that like 7 liters or 7.... I dont know something besides a seat.

4.6L is the LR 4.0L bored out, not the same as the 4.6L ford uses in a lot of their vehicles.

And just a FYI, stay away from the 18" rims.
If you look at the last link you posted...it has 18" rims.
Look at the style of rim, stay away from that style and you will get 16"s.
The one you like best but is to far away has 16" rims.

yep, the 04 with 37k for $9550 is the grail. worth driving for. it's from a dealer, so you probably wont have service records unless you can hunt down the original stealership. but with a good inspection (at local LR shop/dealer), that's a nice deal.

be careful with 03s, as a certain VIN range has fatal engine block/oil pump issues.

make sure you twist every **** and push every switch three times so that you dont miss any small fixes that could bring the dealer down on price.

OK so I just read this article about how if you got an 01 1/2-03 you can buy this part from Atlantic and it comes with all the stuff to make the center diff lock, cable shifter linkage? Can someone explain?

Also whats a good budget lift kit and whats the largest size tires you can fit on a stock 03' Disco. Does the 18" wheel mean anything besides that its an 18" wheel? Will you not be able to fit a 16" if it came with 18's for some reason (brakes, lines, shields?)

The price and availability of an 03 out weights the 04's by me. Theres 1 04 for 8400$ but its gold and it has 120k on it. Theres 2 03's both private sellers for 8,000$ and they both got 80k miles on them. So if I can just install something to make it like and 04' I would rather do that unless a good one pops up.

Is 120k miles alot for these motors? Where do they start breaking down. I understand its how they are taken care of but for the most parts whats the deal. I dont want to have to do a head gasket or engine swap in the first 3 years.
