Default New Thermostat and Coolant Flush - LR Low Temp Stat and Peak Global

Last weekend, I tackled a few items on the list: Water pump, idler pulleys, tensioner, fan clutch, and thermostat.

I was using the recommended coolant from autozone -- the Peak Pink coolant for Land Rovers. But I installed their low temp thermostat I am pretty sure it was a Motorad... And it aint working at 180 degress as described. I actually went from averaging 199 - 201 to 203-206. SO I ordered the genuine LR low teamp stat from Lucky 8.

1. How do I ACTUALLY flush the coolant?

2. Where can I actually purchase the Peak Global?

If the thermostat from Lucky8 has a molded mount onto it & it’s not in a Britpart box = good luck as I doubt it’s a 180F.

All I can say is bleed bleed bleed bleed. Air seems to get trapped at the thermostat or upper intake. Keep topping off thru the bleeder.

Also any green coolant = works excellent on D2’s!! I avoid HOAT coolant period.

Ok LR OEM Grey 180F = good. It’s the 44.00 wonder that is no longer worth a darn as Lucky8 has stopped actually selling the Britpart 180F (stamped 78C vs 82C).

At $93 with tax it better be good!!!

So -- How can I perform a true coolant flush and honestly, what coolant should I put? I was thinking Peak Global, or even just stick with the pink one from autozone. How should can I flush, fill and bleed PROPERLY?

That’s high for a genuine LR 180F thermostat honestly. Lucky8 needs to lower their price, I get them online for around 60-70.00 tops.

A vacuum setup works good to remove coolant, or heck even a shopvac. Then let a hose run thru it until it’s clear, use the shopvac again then put the hose back (I usually disconnect top radiator hose), and fill with green coolant.

Didnt think of that. Where do i attach the shop vac? And I assume I should run a distilled water session first? Drain again and then refill with new coolant?

How much should I put in and should it be 50 50 or max?

(I usually disconnect top radiator hose)
When disconnected there you can suck from the radiator, then you can also suck from the T. I honestly use a garden hose, flush it until I see clear water, then I suck out as much water as possible. I usually start with a 100% green antifreeze jug, then I go with 50/50 mix jugs for the rest of it. You can also just use 50/50 mix jugs if you vacuum a lot of the water out from the flush. I also add a bottle of coolant additive (like water wetter) as a CYA, but it's not required.

you know what they say .. looks like a duck ... talks like a duck . Get that pink stuff out asap or you getting a head job .. the bad kind .. you can get the Peak at WalMart or Wallgreens .. mix it with distilled for best results ..

Remove the lower rad hose or unscrew the rad cap if you have one .. drain .. then fill with distilled and prestone flush .. drive the car around to get all that gunk out .. rinse repeat until clear water comes out .. fill with green and distilled .. add a bottle of wetter for good measure .. and if anyone in blue overalls argues with you about it .. find another guy to work on the car ..
