Cool Which new tires should I buy for daily driving on the beach in thick sand?

Good Afternoon All,

I finally just bought my 1st Land Rover, A 2000 Disco II! YaY!!!! I'm so excited to finally own one! Woo Hoo!

I bought this truck yesterday knowing that it needs new tires desperatly! I am prepared to spend as much as I need to, in order to get the best set of tires for my driving needs, but I could use a little advice from y'all Rover experts?

I live on Hatteras Island, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and drive out on the beach daily to go fishing. The sand here where I drive ranges from tight & packed to very loose, very deep & of a sugary consistency! It is forever changing according to the weather & the tides.

I was hoping y'all could give me your advice on the BEST tires to put on my Disco II for this constant sandy off-roading?

I hardly ever leave the island, where the max speed limit is 55mph for only about 2 miles in a few of the "connects" between villages. The rest of the island is 25-45mph in the summer season & only 25-35 in the off season.

So, I am far more interested in getting a set of tires that are the BEST for constant beach driving -vs- any of the regular concerns with highway driving & noise etc....

I would like to go with the widest & tallest...ie.. biggest tire I can get for my driving conditions, that will of course FIT on my stock 2000 Disco II!

ANY & ALL advice would be greatly appreciated! I plan to order them on the net & have them shipped to me, for our one & only shop here on the island to put them on! So, any sites with the lowest prices would be great as well!

Thank you so much!!!

Tricia -aka- Hatterasvillager

P.S.......

Anyone wanna come to the island to catch some big red drum???
I always welcome fishing buddies! Mi Casa Es Su Casa.... We can DISCO together!! LOL

Copper Discoverer S/T's hands down, great in mud, sand and snow, they dont hydroplane and they wear like iron.

My tires are still at 40 psi in this video.

This is the noise you hear at the end, it flipped over and got caught on the tire.

Hey Spike & Rich,

Thanks SO much for the advice! It is greatly appreciated!! Awesome video! Looks like killer fun.....

Hey Rich.... you said your looking forward to trying out the DuraTracs on the OBX?

When you planning on coming over here to the beach? I gather you must be planning to come all the way down here to hatteras, as you cannot drive on the beach "Up the Beach" (What we refer to as Nags Head, Kitty Hawk etc...)??

You, You & Yours.... You, Yours & your buds.... whichever, or however many.... Are more than welcome to "Cop A Squat" at my house. I live in Frisco Village in a one story ranch style house on stilts. It's certainly NOT a huge Ocean Front palace, but.... its nice enough with lots of space to park the trucks! Come on over and play trucks on the beach, catch some fish & hang! And save all that motel money for repairs & upgrades on the Rover instead!!

Thanks Again!
Tricia

I'm shopping for tires right now too, and anytime I think about sand it's specifically for use on the OBX!

FWIW. I can't speak from personal experience, but I've heard that the Nitto Terra Grapplers are also very good in the sand. Sadly I need to handle mud and snow too...

I can vouch for the Nitto Grapplers for snow handling...up here in WI they've performed very well on the slick stuff as well as powder.

...can't tell you anything about their mud handling though.

What do they use in the desert areas? I know I have seen lots of videos with Disco's climbing sand dunes.

I wanted the BFG AT KO's when I bought new tires, but could not find any locally in the size I was after, so I put the Bridgestone Duelers on. They have been just fine both on and off-road.
