Just bought my 2003 disco II and the lower radiator hose that ties into the plastic junction for the filler and what appears to be the heater hose broke off allowing the coolant to spill out all over the street on my way home....drove with the red overheating light on for a minute at most...okay so what am I looking at, the engine was idling fine when I shut it down just not sure if what to think at this point...any thoughts?

 

1) buy new hose and hardware
2) fill and bleed with new coolant
3) start car and see if temps are good

that is what i would do.....but i am a newb also....

so i wait to be corrected also......

I had a pretty bad over heat when my serpitine belt shredded due to a bad idler pully. I just refilled with coolant mix and I've been good ever since. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Pm me I'd you need help with coolant fill/ bleed steps.

Since you had one hose fail you should order the hose kit to replace all of the hoses. I would also throw in a thermostat while you are at it. Better safe than sorry.

 

aluminium engines don't like over heating..even for a minute..if you didn't cause any damage you're lucky

 

i have a 99 disco ii. for the last 3 days it has been running hot. once it cooled, i started it and there was no heat coming out of vent inside. i bought a new lower hose and a new thermostat from lr dealer. i bled the cooling system by pouring water in the bleed valve (bought new T set-up) until it filled the reservoir. now i have heat and it runs fine with heat on. i let it sit idling for 45 min. yesterday. i drove it about 30 min. yesterday. temp guage never went past half-way, but that was with heat on. when i turn on a.c. or just turn system to off, it overheats after about 10 min of normal driving. i have not been able to get it to over heat while idling though? i don't have any bubbling (boiling) in reservoir when hot but it does let off steam through res cap. i don't have waterfall noise inside. my compressor fan is operating. my top hose gets hot almost immediately. it is 100 degrees plus here in memphis and running the heat isn't that enjoyable. Please help, this is my only car.
