Default Newbie Recovery Questions

Hi Guys.....I've had my Disco for 2 yrs now, use it on the beach and driving in PA snow.

I think it's about time I got a recovery strap, and am trying to figure out the best system to use.

According to the Rave, there are 3 recovery points on the Disco, 1 behind a panel in the front bumper, and 2 in the rear.

So first question, are these indeed the recovery points, and can they be used for both pulling another vehicle out, and having my vehicle pulled out?

Second question....is the best way to attach the recovery strap to each vehicle a screw pin anchor shackle like this one? Thanks Guys!

I wouldn't use any of the stock points for a dynamic recovery. In the rear I'd use the trailer hitch. In the front I'd add something. Like a bumper.

Just to be abundantly clear, don't use a trailer ball for recovery. Either pin your recovery strap in the receiver or get a receiver hitch that has a D-shackle.

Very good advice. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for the advice! Can you explain how to "pin" the recovery strap in the receiver? I have a hitch but never used it so not sure exactly what you mean

You're going to want to use something like this - SHACKLE MNT 2" RECEIVER w/HITCH PIN, RNA1022 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts in the receiver.

Do not use those "recovery" points on your chassis, but they are really just tie down points for the tow truck.

The ideal way to use the receiver as a recovery point is to use the shackle hitch that ZGPhoto posted. But if you don't have one, put your recovery strap loop into the receiver and use your hitch pin to secure it. I've seen people attach a chain to a hitch ball and that is a huge disaster waiting to happen. Death and destruction can result.

C. David.....what size hitch pin do I need for my standard DII hitch? It seems that there are two different sizes, 5/8" and 1/2"?

Thanks!

Yep, they are very handy!

Burlington is awesome, plus where I work(Rovers North) is very close so it'll come in handy.

We just got 8" of snow, perfect rover weather!
