So I recently picked up my second Disco II. It's a 2001 coming up on around 116,800 miles. today when I went to start my car I noticed that the dreaded service engine soon light was illuminated AND blinking but only for a short amount of time. it stopped blinking completely and is now steadily on.


I mainly need some insight on possibilities of what this could be, currently I'm thinking that it could be a sensor that was known to be faulty (told to me by the previous owner) the car isn't running funny, and fluids all appear to be normal. if not the sensor, could the spark plugs or even the gas cap be the issue?

ps I noticed some light jerking when I initially accelerated on the interstate, but nothing now. also generally at cold start the engine will run a tad rough, but nothing crazy. clears up almost immediately following the engine getting up to temp.

 

Most auto parts stores will use their diagnostic equipment to read the codes indicated by the SES light. Get that done and reply to us with the exact codes in P-numeric format (P0303 for example). It might be a short list or it might be a long list. We can help you get your truck on the right path from there. Without the codes we can't help.

BTW, a flashing SES is more serious than a steadily illuminated SES.

 

A blinking light usually means you have a problem that is leading to cat failure. But you should read your codes immediately to be sure.

I've had blinking lights when I had a stuck injector flooding gas in the engine and exhaust, and when I had serious misfire problems.

 

Highly recommend purchase and use of a ScanGaugeII or similar type of device for reading your codes and the continual monitoring of the available important parameters. Small investment will save you time/money and make life easier.
