Default No drive help

Hi all first post here

recently lost all drive while off road it was just after engaging the diff lock under the car for the first time ( was very stuck) felt like I was either I only getting 2wd or just lacking power but it is possible that was just in my head and it was just slipping in all the mud. Then It stoped working all together. I don’t have very long to fix it so I was just wondering if anyone knew a quick way to diagnose if it is clutch, T box or transmission. drive shafts are not spinning and I have no drive in any gears high or low.

1999 D2 manual v8

thanks

edit: forgot to mention when it first went I couldn’t get it into gear at all now it go’s in just no drive

Are you sure your t-case is fully engaged in either high or low range? Maybe try moving it fully each way? (Sorry if this is a dumb reply but sometimes the obvious stumps the best of us)

Yeah it is definitely engaged on the stick tho I’m sure it’s possible something could be broken preventing it from engaging like a cable or something so I will definitely look into that before removing the tbox

If "no drive in any gears, hi or low range" includes reverse...then l'd say the fiction disc came apart (clutch component)...or somethIng broke inside trans or transfer case.

Given you were messing with the T case my first thought would be popped out of gear and it is neutral between high/low. You can easily drop the tcase cover and see if any gears are turning. If no gears turning then you have a trans issue, front clutch.

Could have finally worn out the clutch. Or the TC is stuck in N.

If it's a 1999 D2 then the t-case lock is a retrofit. This being the case, the linkages between the lever and the actuating pin on the transfer case might not be completely lined up. Try shifting the case from underneath the truck to be certain that it's actually engaged or disengaged.
The truck has no 2WD -- it's always 4WD.

Being a manual trans, the..."seems like it was in 2wd"...in my mind, would be clutch disc slippage. If off roading, heavy duty, not that uncommon to start slipping and then loose clutch disc material.

I got under the car to engage the CDL and I know they are constant 4wd but surely if the transfer box has problems it could cause only one axle to get power right. Correct me if I’m wrong it only felt like that for about 10 minutes before it all went wrong

definitely possible hopefully not as I have a spare t box lol but if that was the case I only had that lack of power feeling about 10 minutes before it went and would a clutch usually be slipping for longer before
