It does go on the shaft only one way. If you look closely at the switch mounting holes you should be able to recognize they are short slots that allow the small amount of final rotational adjustment.

yeah I know. I'm going to try again tomorrow with someone in the cab. It was a pain today trying to adjust it and get in and out of the truck. Could the actual rod attached to the cable be stretched or out of place?

Place the shifter to P and adjust the cable on the switch to the last click, then tighten the nut. Hope it works. There is another thread all about this on this page. Sorry cant browse with my phone.

Im on my phone as well so can't search. You say cable on the switch. What cable is the exactly and how do I adjust it? Is it the cable that comes off the spindle ? I only get clicks when I move the whole xyz switch and not sure if I can move the spindle by moving the cable

I went out to try and adjust it and all I could do was get it to say "P" in reverse...so my through is it's totally miscalibrated or the cable could be stretched

I remember when i tighten the cable i just let the arm stay and not move it coz i get different resaults and sometimes shifter goes between gears. Also once the cable is fixed, then you can adjust the entire switch to the correct possition. Theres only few mm of adjustment until you find the right spot. It also happened that the truck wont start if totally mis alligned.

Here's a couple pages from the manual in case you don't have them. Includes switch and cable adj. You can ignore the special tool as it's just a way around a shop needing two people for small adj. The cable adj should be checked first.

thanks! I just had the first page. I bet the second one is where the issue is. I wouldn't be surprised if something was broken there.
