No spark at plugs. Help please!
2001 discovery currently in the shop and my mechanic is stumped. The truck tries to start but will not turn over. There is fuel but no spark. He says the code that comes up says erratic voltage. So far he has checked all grounds. The battery is fully charged and replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor this morning. Any ideas would be great. Thanks guys.
Fuses. I once had a guy with a car that wouldn't start. Pretty much all the same things you describe. None of the fuses looked like they were tripped. I pushed down on all of the fuses to make sure they were seated properly and sure enough, a couple of them moved when I pushed them in. He cranked the engine and it started right up.
It's a long-shot, but it's an idea.

After some searches on ppl with the same or similar issues I have found.
1. Check inertia switch
2.check if coils are getting power
3. Idm in the body fuse panel?
4. Fuses
Not sure what all that means but I will update my mechanic and keep other this updated. Thanks!

Crank Shaft position sensor is very particular about how it its mounted, and in what sequence spacers go back on, this is frequently a source of "it still won't start" Code number?
You could also be immobilized - what is status of red "security" light on dash?

Tries to start but will not turn over, statments like that make it hard to figure out what is going wrong.
Is your mechanic an experienced Rover mechanic, doesn't sound like it.
You have one of the most common Rover issues, a bad crank sensor.
Get it replace and I bet your problem will be gone.

Hi,
I vote crank sensor too.
Did you do anything with the key fob? Wondering if your rover is immobilized?
But-
here is something to try.
Put a scanning code reader onto the OBD II connector.
Read the voltage on it.
Put it in SCAN live mode.
See if when you crank the engine - that there is a little bit of RPM on the scanning display. Not sure if that will work.
But, if you see RPM when you crank it over, then that is a good sign.
If you see 0 RPM - crank sensor.
A fellow here took his DII all apart and had the engine out.
he had the crank sensor mounted wrong.
The sensor need to be close to the teeth for the magnetics to make a pulse for the ECM to read and then figure out when to fire the coils.
I would also check:
1) The flat sliver ground wire from the driver's side (USA) cylinder head to the firewall. Make sure that is attached to the firewall and to the cylinder head.
2) Pull off the battery terminal wires. Clean them with the battery circular wire brush and put them back on.
3) Pull wires off of the coils and put them back on.

Thank you all for the great info. No my mechanic is not familiar with land rovers. But I will relay all of this to him I really miss my truck. Can't thank you enough for the info. Let you guys know what happens.
Just so you know, the part is around $70 to $80 and you should not pay more then 1 hour labor, don't let him screw you and then go find a real Rover mechanic that knows them well, you would have had the truck back the same day if you gave it to a qualified Rover mechanic.
So quick update. Mechanic said he found a problem with the positive battery cable crimp at the connection causing a drain. I told him to run the list if things jfall suggested and he has done everything except the rpm test. He says a friend told him to do the same and he will be doing that today.
As far as the alarm. I recently did change the battery in my fob but everything worked fine after. I asked what the status of the red light is and he says it goes out.
