So I found a local Jeep buddy with a hoist, and I am going to buy an engine stand and leveler tomorrow. Decided to pull the motor and disassemble it completely and check everything. I mean, once the heads are off there really isn't much left in order to pull it.
Machine shop called and said 4 bent valves and one exhaust alve had pitting, so I will probably just replace them all and be done with it, so my kid hadls a truly fresh motor and less worries.

Your boy is a very lucky lad to have a father who does all this for him, good luck and I hope any damage and cost is minimal.
Sorry I'm late but is there a auto craft center on post there?
Yes sir, there is. Pretty good one from what I hear, but I just decided to do it all here. Motor is out, valves are in but machine shop found two broken valve keepers. Those are on order along with new front cover and gears, new rod and main bearings just to be safe.
So, update to the post. Motor is in and runs pretty well. Pretty sure that new cam
that was in it is not a stocker. Has a little extra lope to it.
Still having issues with the M&S lights flashing. Put a new battery in it, put new battery terminals on it, did a full trans service with filter and fluid, rebuilt the xyz switch, and still have the flashing and limp mode. Also replaced the crank sensor (previous owner had a known good spare and a new one). Disconnected the trans ecm under the drivers seat, no change. Checked all the relay, no change. No codes present either, which I thought was strange.
- Maybe the xyz was too far gone? Cleaned up well I thought.
- Will abs light affect M&S? ABS light came on after brake job. One of the abs sensors was a little crusty like maybe the wire got hot or chafed.
- I am open to suggestions....
What were you using to try to read the transmission codes? Are you sure it is a scanner capable of doing so? Many scanners can read engine management codes only.
There are 14 different faults that can trigger the M & S lights. It's true that in addition to those faults low voltage is a common cause of the M&S lights and if that can be diagnosed and remedied pretty easily, but beyond a problem with voltage it's best to get the codes read.
