Default Noisy AC Fan

Hi,

The ac fan seems really noisy on the high setting, I am sure it will be a pain to get to the fan, but when I get to it, will there be an easy fix like cleaning it or oiling it, or is it more likely that I will need to replace it, I really only want to get to it once!

Thanks

Harry

Depends on what is wrong with it, most likely it needs to be replaced.
I have always had good luck oiling the bearings on my GM cars HVAC blower motors.
Drill a small hole in the bearing housing, drop in some 3-N-1 oil and put it all back.

You shouldn't be telling people that. I can see it now.

That's the nice thing about the blower motors on the D2s: no drilling required. Remove the motor assembly, unbolt it from the plastic case, remove the squirrel cage from the motor, and you have ready access to both bearings. Mine has been making the cricket noise for a while now. WD-40 fixed it for a few days, and I have had a can of 3-in-1 oil on my desk for 2 months, with just not the motivation to oil it. If the 3-in-1 oil doesn't fix it more-or-less permanently, I'm going to find a source for the bearings and rebuild it, because it is just an electric motor. I figure 2 bearings and my labor will be less than the $250 for a new one.

if its making noise on high then something is probably in the fans causing the noise. like a leaf or a dead baby mouse inside a nest.

oh and if they chew thru the blades it will cause noise as its sets off the weight and causes the same reaction.
