Default Noob question on u joints

I recently purchased a 99 d1 disco with 129000 on it. I'm noticing a slight vibration between first and second gear. I'm also hearing a clunk when I put the truck into reverse. All the info I have found is on d2's Does this sound like u joints? I have the service manuel for the truck and the 90000 and the 120000 mile services have been done and I know these don't cover u joints. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it were u-joints the vibration would be above a certain speed not certain gears.
I certainly wouldnt hurt to replace the u-joints. I have had the same "clunk" for a year now so if you can get it figured out let me know.

I am getting a slight vibration at around 70mph. I just don't want anything major to happen(when I'm sure it's avoidable). Thanks for the response!

You had said that the vibration was between first and second gear...if you are getting it at 70 then I would say u-joints, stay below 70 until they get replaced. This week.

Sounds like it could be u-joints to me. At the very least, jack each end of the truck up so that the driveshaft is free to turn and check for any amount of looseness in the joints, the slightestamount of play is bad. Then get them replaced anyways and you won't have to worry about it.

Thanks for the responses guys!!! I'm going to get them replaced this week I just wanted to find out if it sounded like more then that. What do I need to get as far as u joint for the d1? Are there three u joints? I know I need to get greasable ones obviously but what else? But I am geting the vibration at 70 mph as well as between first and second. Thanks again!

There are 4 u-joints, all needing grease fittings and the rot flex on the rear axle.
The clunk you are hearing, if you are new to Rover's, is normal.

Thanks for the response. So the clunk going into reverse is normal? It doesn't do it everytime that's why I was curious. But I am new to Rovers..Thanks again!
