Yeah the vin falls in the range...I'll message the dealer and see if they have the history available.
I think at 115k If I can get it for under 5 Im willing to take that risk.

As an aside, if a 2003 engine DOES die...is it possible to swap in an older model engine?

I know that you can put the 4.6 into a Disco that already has the 4.0, so I would think that yes you can. But you wont like it. The 4.0 has less power than the 4.6.
If it goes bad you could have your engine rebuilt or buy used or buy a reman.

The Freelander is pretty good offroad but not even close to a Disco. No low range or center locking differential.
A Freelander to me would make a great car for the wife. Or as a daily driver with the Disco for offroading and towing.

Is looking like the one...he'll go for 3500, not certified.

Thing to look at during testing? It has 180k miles or so

The pic wont come up. I dont know what 180km is in miles...but for $3500 Canadian ($1,000,000 US) it sounds like a good deal.
Things to look for, just make sure that everything works. And I mean EVERYTHING, check the oil, is it full? Reardefroster, does the glass get warm? Turn on the lights and the hazards, do all the lights and turn signals work? Brake lights? Wipers, delay wipers. Window washers? Is the tire tool and jack there? Owners manual? Spare tire? What shape is it in? Do the tires match? Warning lights on? Cruise work? Check all the power windows and sunroofs. Check all the windows from the drivers seat AND each door. Do the seat heaters work? Does you wifes butt get warm too? Pull out the cig lighter, is it dirty? If so it was a smokers car. Does the cig lighter work?
A test drive should last an hour. Take it on the exspressway, to the mall. Park it in your garage. While driving at 35mph slam on the brakes, does the ABS work? How bad does it pull to one side or the other?
From a stop mash the gas to the floor, does it hesitate? Stutter or stall? Hold it to the floor until you hit 60mph, its best to do this on a on ramp to the exspressway so that you can accelerate to 60 and beyond safely.
After you drive it go home and sleep on it. If it doesnt feel right then walk away, there will be others.
