Default Normal Operating Temps w/a 180F thermostat

According to my Ultragauge, I'm running between 197-206F (depending on highway and stop/go traffic) on a hot (87F) day. With my new 180F Motorad thermostat, is this normal, or is some part of my cooling system not doing it's job?

That seems a little high at least to me...but we have not seen that kinda heat here yet. I have been in the 190-194 on the highway (65-70mph) and in the 200-205 in stop and go.

EDIT: I have the OEM warm weather t-stat bought from AB (the grey one) also I have not flushed changed the radiator yet, but it was green coolant with most hoses replaced already when I got it. I did see about an 10 degree drop over the 190 stat.

Check these out:

I just replaced the radiator, hoses, water pump and thermostat and mine ran at 199 on the highway in 80-90F temps. It will get up to 205 or so idling.

OK, so I'm responding "in typical worry-wart fashion". Still, if a 180F is suppose to lower temps by 10F, I don't think I'm seeing the #'s I should.

I just replaced my rad and put in a 180* t-stat and I run 194-197 on the hwy and 199-201 stop and go or climbing up long steep hills. before I was running 215-220 all the time. how is you fan clutch and water pump? how many miles on you truck? rad could be a bit clogged

Did you test your t-stat before you installed it?

The key here is the brand Motorad, I believe. I installed the 180* Warm Climate OEM Land Rover t-stat (the dark grey one) and my temps range from 183* to 189* on hot days here in Florida.

No. Only testing I've done is to watch my Ultragauge.

I always test the motorad ones in a pot of boiling water, I have heard that they can sometimes be faulty.
