Sound advice, but it is working. Can't verify that it's opening at exactly 180F, but it is opening. My guess is some other aspect (likely the radiator) isn't at 100%. Going to flush, then retest.

how many mile on your truck? you might be wasting your time trying to flush the rad, I flushed mine three times at home and even took it to a shop to flush but no change at all in temps, after driving around for a bit feel the rad top to bottom there should only be about a 10-20 degree diff from top to bottom, is you bottom rad hose colder than the top?

I have a 180 Motorad in the 99 and the temps are 195 - 197 Might get to 201 in stop n go traffic, I suppose my radiator is a bit plugged since it has 220k on it. Putting one in the 04 soon It runs a bit hot getting up to 205 at times so I am anxious to see how much the 180 drops it.

With 75 miles on a new radiator, fan clutch and motorad 180 I have these exact temps with an occasional random spike to 203. I havent done the front shaft yet, so I have not gone highway much at all.

Sounds like the grey diesel OEM stat runs cooler.

Unless I have an anomaly I would say yes. I just did a three hour drive today and did not break 183.6* while cruising at 65-70MPH. I did see 190.4* sitting at a light for what seemed like forever, but that was the highest I've seen since installing the OEM grey warm climate t-stat.
